Kagga Kamma Caves and Landscape

Kagga Kamma

Far away from the city lights, in a vast open space where rock formations frame the horizon, there is a place where lovers of nature can experience a truly unique environment: Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve, nestled within the scenic Cederberg Mountains.

The lodge offers something exciting and completely different from the typical Cape Winelands or Coastal Spots.

About the Reserve

Kagga Kamma offers ten unique man-made Cave Suites that were skilfully constructed to integrate with the natural sandstone formations. The facade of the Cave Suites is man-made, while the back-interior wall is natural sandstone. Each Cave Suite has a small terrace with a view and is simply furnished with comfort in mind. The beautiful rock formations can be experienced up close in these man-made suites that blend into their environment seamlessly. Each 'Cave' is equipped with a double bed, air-conditioner, and coffee/tea making facilities, en-suite bathroom, bathrobes, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries.

The five spacious thatched-huts at Kagga Kamma resemble the traditional dwellings of the San clans that inhabited the Reserve many years ago. Each hut has twin beds or a king-size bed with en-suite bathroom, a double sleeper couch, air-conditioner, coffee/tea making facilities, bathrobes, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries.

Kagga Kamma is situated in the south-eastern region of the Cederberg, only about three-and-a-half hours from Cape Town. This region was home to the San people for centuries. The red-brown weathered sandstone formations seen here are typical to the Cederberg. Plants are described as drier mountain Fynbos and you can see for miles and miles because the area is largely treeless.

One of Kagga Kamma's most unique attractions is the San Rock Art that is found in the area and that you will be able to see while doing a Rock Art tour with one of the guides from the lodge.
